2024 Doula Reflections

As 2024 comes to a close, Kelly and I have been reflecting on our fourth full year as full-spectrum doulas and feeding specialists, and all the amazing families we got to support, as they ventured into life as new parents for the (mostly) first time! Not to mention, the amount of families we helped in their postpartum and lactation journeys.

Alongside their parents, we welcomed 33 babies Earthside, with 21 girls and 12 boys! We were at every local hospital in our area, as well as birth centers and home births. We stood alongside a few cesareans and even got to support new families as their surrogates delivered their babies to them or as they were a surrogate to new parents. Over a dozen families were helped in their postpartum, too, including a unique situation where Doula Nicki got to help a new mom out after her cesarean by staying with her the first two overnights in the hospital (yes, we offer that, too!) or a NICU baby that Kelly got to help care for during overnight support for months, after they finally got to come home. Needless to say, it was a wonderful year and we learned so much about ourselves and how we would like to better support clients moving forward.

2025 will bring access to birth doula support through Medicaid for Washington state, and Kelly and I are so proud to be ready to take on clients who need our help and have state insurance here. We are also finalizing our birth education prep class and will be offering that to clients and our community by the Spring. We are already booking out into mid-summer of 2025, so I wouldn’t wait much longer to contact a birth doula if you are in need of one for the second half of next year, as so many doulas like us book up quickly, no matter their location (we still have a few Spring spots left!).

We are so excited to see what the new year brings us and are so proud of the 2024 we survived. If you had a baby this year that we got to help support, we thank you so much for choosing us, for welcoming us into your birth space, and entrusting us with our knowledge and care for your new, little human in the postpartum. Word of mouth is huge in our industry, so I will gently ask those who were supported by us, to kindly leave us a review, so that we can continue to help others, just like we helped you. I will link some places that you can do just that below!

Thank you for helping us love our jobs and thank you for trusting us to walk alongside you during one of the most special times in one’s life. We truly are honored to do this work and we are so looking forward to what 2025 has in store for Birth and Beyond Doula Services!
